By Air
New Zealand being one of the remotest destinations, most of the air routes are long haul except for visitors from south eastern region of
Australia. European and Asian visitors fly via one of the transit hubs in
South East Asia such as
Singapore,
Bangkok or
Hong Kong. Visitors from American continent fly via
Japan.
New Zealand has four major international gateways, two in each island. All the airports have a departure tax ranging from NZ$20 to NZ$25 depending on the airport. The tax can be paid in cash or any international credit cards.
Auckland has the largest International airport in the whole of
New Zealand making
Auckland the most connected cities of
New Zealand to the rest of the world. All major International carriers serve flights to
Auckland. Auckland International Airport (AKL) is located in Mangere 14 miles (22 km) south of
Auckland.

Auckland. Other airlines serving flights to Auckland include Air Pacific, Air Vanuatu, American Airlines, Japan Airlines, Korean Airlines, Lan Chile, Lufthansa, Malaysia Airlines, Mandarin Airlines, Ansett Australia, Ansett New Zealand, Britannia Airways (charter flights), British Airways, Canadian Airlines, Cathay Pacific Airways, Eagle Air, EVA Air, Garuda Indonesia, Mount Cook Airlines, Polynesian Airlines, Qantas Airways, Singapore Airlines, Solomon Airlines, Thai Airways, and United Airlines.

Wellington

Australia (about three hours away). It is located five miles (eight km) southeast of town and served by Air New
Zealand and Qantas.
By Sea
There are no regular services that fetch passengers to
New Zealand by sea. However there are some charter services provided by yacht operators from
